Zines Needed for Houston Indie Book Festival

Zine Fest is participating in the Houston Indie Book Festival on April 2nd. It’s from 11am-5pm and will be on the Menil lawn. We’ll be handing out information about the 2011 zine fest & selling zines.

Year of the Roach: The Houston Zine Fest Zine

In conjunction with Zine Fest 2011 (May 21, at Khon’s. 2808 Milam), we are planning to release an anthology or other collaborative project focused on Houston and featuring zinesters and cartoonists from Houston and beyond.

The first Zine Fest Houston compilation shall henceforth be referred to as Year of the Roach: The Zine Fest Houston Zine (or YOR ZINE for short).

This is an open call for readers, editors, and graphic designers to help us put YOR ZINE together. Anyone who is interested should contact ASAP

Oh yeah, we need submissions too.

The theme is Houston. You don’t have to be from Houston to contribute, but your contribution must somehow fit in with the theme of Houston. The format of your submission can be short story, poetry, comics, essay, article, historical writing, interview, review, photo, illustration or whatever. But it has to somehow relate to Houston. Be creative. There are many ways to make this work.

Submissions must be black and white and easy to reproduce on a photocopier. Electronic submissions should be sent to and physical submissions should be mailed to Zine Fest Houston, P.O. Box 7421,
Houston, TX 77248.

Submissions must received by April 30, 2011 to be considered.

There is no payment involved. Creators retain rights to their works provided they grant Zine Fest Houston the nonexclusive right to reprint it for one year.

After a short delay and (hopefully) much anticipation, the 2011 Zine Fest Houston form is available, right here, as a .pdf.  Tables will be $25 on or before April 1st and $30 after April 1st. Each table is six feet long.
